Thanksgiving Festival of Choirs set for Nov. 22
Connellsville's annual Thanksgiving Festival of Choirs will return in November with a thanks to "God and Country."
A combination of local choirs will perform Nov. 22 for the Thanksgiving Festival of Choirs. This year's theme is "Our Thanks to God and Country." It will be held at Wesley United Methodist Church, South Pittsburgh Street, Connellsville.
This year's program will include Thanksgiving music, Negro spirituals and patriotic selections. Selections will include "He Never Failed Me Yet," "Let Freedom Ring" and "In Everything Give Thanks."
The combined choir consists of approximately 80 to 90 members from Connellsville, Uniontown, Scottdale, Mt. Pleasant and other locations in the Fay-West area. The event has attracted an average of 500 people for the annual performance, which dates to the 1920s, said Joanna Ball, chairwoman of the festival.
"When we had our 9/11 program, 700 people came to watch and we had to turn them away," Ball said.
Nick Bell, band director for Geibel Catholic Middle-High School, will be the director of the festival's combined choirs.
Chris Hornick, a former instrumental teacher at Connellsville Junior High East, will lead a brass ensemble in a few selections.
The two soloists this year will be Caitlyn Bovard, a clarinetist, and Blake Michaux, a tenor; both students are graduates of Connellsville Senior High School and former recipients of the Mozart Music Club award.
The Rev. Dennis Bogusz will be the officiating clergy. A free-will offering that provides a source for the student Mozart Club awards will be received at the festival.
The Thanksgiving Festival of Choirs is sponsored by the Mozart Music Club.
The event starts at 6 p.m.
