For no reason beyond plot convenience, "John Tucker Must Die" tells us that beautiful Kate (Brittany Snow) is a geek who has never had a date and never been noticed.

She teams with three major high school movers and shakers -- emphasis on shakers -- Carrie (Arielle Kebbel), Heather (Ashanti) and Beth (Sophia Bush), to exact a preposterous level of revenge on a sociopathic student Lothario named John Tucker (Jesse Metcalfe).

Somehow the girls have unlimited time and cash reserves to devote to the humiliation of a guy who seems considerably less terrible than most of the leading male characters lionized in movies of the 21st century.

This is the kind of movie so myopic that the poses of all the fast-lane girls vanish when they bond. Carrie secretly films activity in the locker room. The legal consequences would have made a much better picture than the juvenile borderline smut delivered here, the requisite flatulence included.

Betty Thomas, who at age 58 should be tackling films of post-adolescent interest, directed Jeff Lowell's screenplay.
