Drama Desk Award nominations announced Monday included two individuals and one musical with Pittsburgh connections:

• The Broadway production of the musical "The Glorious Ones" written by composer Stephen Flaherty, a Dormont native, and lyricist Lynn Ahrens has received nominations for five Drama Desk awards.

The musical had its world premiere by the Pittsburgh Public Theater in April 2007.

Flaherty received a nomination for outstanding music and Ahrens a nomination for outstanding lyrics. The musical also received nominations for outstanding musical, outstanding orchestration and outstanding costume design. Ahrens and Flaherty also wrote the musicals "Ragtime," "Seussical" and "Once on This Island."

Rob Ashford, a graduate of Point Park University's College of Performing Arts, received an outstanding choreography nomination for his work on "Cry-Baby The Musical." The stage and musical adaptation of John Waters' movie had its Broadway opening Thursday at the Marquis Theatre.

The Drama Desk, which began in 1949, is an organization of theater critics, writers and editors that honors excellence in all areas of New York theater. It has been presenting awards since 1955.
