Winchester Thurston School in Shadyside has received a $250,000 matching grant from a Maine foundation to expand its City as Our Campus program.
The program works with organizations such as the Pittsburgh Public Theater, the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium and the Manchester Craftsmen's Guild to explore educational and cultural opportunities in the city.
The grant came from the Edward E. Ford Foundation, a Portland, Maine, philanthropic group that supports secondary schools worldwide.
Winchester Thurston is one of four schools nationwide to receive the grant, which will be awarded when the school raises its half.
