EDUCATION
• Pittsburgh sports author Jim O'Brien was named alumni and community relations director, a newly created position in Baldwin-Whitehall School District.
• The Ellis School added to its board of trustees: Susan H. Brownlee, executive director of The Fine Foundation; Margaret "Peggy" Mathieson Conver, an Ellis alumna from the class of 1973 who served as business manager at Chestnut Hill Academy, Philadelphia; Vivian Loftness, a professor in the School of Architecture at Carnegie Mellon University; and Courtney Cosgrove Muse, a founding partner of Cincinnati advertising agency, Cosgrove Pattison York Inc., who now devotes her time to family and community projects.
NONPROFITS
• East End Cooperative Ministry announced that Phil Hallen, president emeritus of the Falk Foundation, will chair the ministry's campaign for East End Community House, a new building on Penn Circle that will house children and youth services, a food pantry, Meals on Wheels, a community lunch program, the homeless shelter and Orr Center for Compassionate Care.
• Three Rivers Rowing Association appointed Rick Brown executive director.

• At Providence Point, Cheryl Torre-Rastetter was named director of dining and Cameron Clegg was named executive chef.
• Elizabeth A. Kort, a staff pharmacist for Wegman's Pharmacy, Hunt Valley, Md., was named national grand council president of Kappa Epsilon Fraternity.
• The Oakland Planning and Development Corp. welcomed Wanda Wilson as executive director.
AWARDS
• Dr. John T. Comerci Jr. received the inaugural Drs. Henry P. & M. Page Laughlin Award for Excellence in Clinical Teaching at a Temple University School of Medicine clinical campus. At West Penn Allegheny Health System, Comerci is director of the division of gynecologic oncology and director the division's outreach.
• Dr. Todd Wolynn executive director of the Breastfeeding Center of Pittsburgh, received a Certificate of Appreciation from Allegheny County Health Department.
• St. Barnabas Health System honored as Employees of the Month for August: Yvonne Buehler, a registered nurse at the nursing home; Denise DeMarco, a hospice volunteer coordinator for the medical center; Kimberly Keller, a food service assistant at Valencia Woods; Donna Salmane, a human resources assistant for the health system; and Sandy Zivkovich, a cook at the communities.
