Alumnus Kenneth Love was welcomed back by the University of Pittsburgh on Monday for a private screening of his documentary Newspaper of Record: The Pittsburgh Courier, 1907-1965, which recently was awarded a CINE Golden Eagle for excellence in the visual arts.
Close to 600 newsies, including former Courier reporter George Barbour; Nancy Bolden (widow of Courier editor/reporter Frank Bolden); Robert Hill; Gayle Moss; Marva Harris; Rod Doss; Sam Black; Yvonne Cook; Linda Wharton Boyd; Robert Agbede; Patricia Beeson; Kathy Humphrey; G. Reynolds Clark; Al Novak; and Paul Supowitz attended the premiere, held at the Twentieth Century Club.
The leading black newspaper of the 20th century during its reign, the Courier published 14 editions nationwide and overseas with an overall circulation of 400 thousand during its peak.
