Briefs: Carson Kressley to unveil collection

If you've ever watched Carson Kressley, the fashion maven on "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy," transform someone from schleppy to swanky, you know he truly has an eye for what looks, well, perfect. Perhaps that's why his new collection for men and women is called "Perfect by Carson Kressley."

To be unveiled Wednesday evening on QVC, it's touted as "classics with a twist." Many of the separates and accessories, priced from $29.25 to $197.50, focus on equestrian details -- horseshoe zipper pulls, ribbon trims -- and there's a good supply of great basics, including career staples for women and smart outerwear for men.

"Necessity is the mother of invention," says Kressley, who realized that many of the people he's worked with have key pieces missing from their wardrobes. "They have the Shania Twain T-shirt but they don't have an interview outfit. We're going to make the world a better place, one wrap dress at a time."

Randolph Duke offers wardrobe tips in book

Next time you're shopping, try on "five completely implausible items -- otherwise, how are you ever going to know what you look like in low-rise jeans, a cropped sweater or stiletto boots?" So says designer Randolph Duke in his new book, "The Look: A Guide to Dressing From the Inside Out" (Clarkson Potter, $24.95).

The man who revived the Halston collection and has dressed everyone from Barbra Streisand to Jennifer Lopez offers a step-by-step guide to updating your wardrobe, plus tips on body types. Raglan sleeves or bangle bracelets make sense for women with heavy upper arms, while belted trousers work for hourglass figures. If you're short, choose a belt that blends; monochromatic color creates a long line, and the illusion of height.

Hair products counter effects of styling

Can your hair show its age? Oh yes, according to celeb stylist Frederic Fekkai, who has come up with some products to counteract years of hair abuse. His new Ageless line includes three products, all designed to combat the dryness, dullness and uneven texture caused by years of processing, heat and environmental pollution.

The products contain conditioners such as orchid extract, a cuticle-smoothing agent to promote shine, and keratin to form a protective shield. Rejuvenating Shampoo and Restructurizing Conditioner are $35 each for 7 ounces, and Damage-Defense Capsules, a light vitamin serum applied to dry hair to protect hair from the environment, $45, at Saks Fifth Avenue.

'Breakfast at Tiffany's' necklace replicas for sale

It's probably one of the most famous pearl necklaces ever -- the multi-strand choker worn by Audrey Hepburn in "Breakfast at Tiffany's." Natalie Portman is wearing a replica of it on the cover of this month's Harper's Bazaar. The magazine asked jewelry designer Kenneth Jay Lane to create the copy for sale -- only 200 are available, with half of the $400 price benefiting the City of Joy Aid charity.

Book focuses on pearls' beauty, history

Tiffany design director John Loring's latest book is "Tiffany Pearls" (Abrams, $50). In it, find hundreds of stunning photos, plus a glossary that will explain, among other things, the difference between a mobe pearl and a biwa. And you'll learn about pearls through the ages, such as the Peregrina, discovered in American waters in the 1500s and worn by several European queens, eventually purchased by Richard Burton for Elizabeth Taylor.
