A state-appointed mediator has scheduled a bargaining session for 9:30 a.m. today with negotiators for striking teachers in the Duquesne Education Association and the school district.
Duquesne's approximately 50 teachers began walking the picket line Tuesday because they say they are tired of being paid lower wages than any other district in Allegheny County.
The union is seeking a 19 percent raise, which would bring the district's teachers to the level of Clairton, which has the second-lowest paid teachers.
Because of financial woes, Duquesne was put under state control in 2000. The 520-student district has an annual budget of about $15 million.
