The state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources has scheduled a meeting in Mars next month to ask people for ideas about improving outdoor recreation, the department said today.
The ideas will help the state create its Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan, which is produced every five years and helps with planning and funding.
The department has identified four themes for its draft recommendations, which can be viewed at paoutdoorrecplan.com:.
• Provide more integrated outdoor recreation opportunities.
• Connect outdoor recreation and conservation to Pennsylvania's economy and the health and quality of life of residents.
• Reconnect people to the natural environment and develop a stewardship ethic in all segments of the population.
• Develop a statewide trail network and address trail gaps.
The state will conduct three meetings, the first from 4:30 to 7 p.m. June 1 at the Four Points by Sheraton, Pittsburgh North, 910 Sheraton Drive in Mars. The other two will follow in Centre and Lehigh counties.
