A man from Georgia who pleaded guilty to firearms violations for carrying a stolen handgun as he attempted to board a plane was sentenced Friday in U.S. District Court in Pittsburgh to three years in prison followed by three years of supervised release.
Joseph J. Bobbitt Jr., 29, of Dallas told investigators that he forgot the gun was in his carry-on luggage when he attempted to pass through a baggage screener at Pittsburgh International Airport on Feb. 5.
Bobbitt, a convicted felon who is not permitted to have a gun, admitted that he knew the gun was stolen, prosecutors said. Bobbitt was convicted of aggravated assault in Blair County in May 2006.
