Police in Fayette County are investigating a report someone driving either a Uniontown firetruck or an ambulance assaulted a man during a live broadcast of an afternoon radio talk show.

Uniontown police Chief Jason Cox acknowledged a report of a disturbance Wednesday at North Pole Ice on Mill Street, but he declined further comment because an investigation is ongoing.

Brian "Iceman" Oros, who owns North Pole Ice, summoned Uniontown police to the emergency room at The Uniontown Hospital 7:16 p.m. Wednesday to report he had been assaulted earlier in the day, according to a police log.

Contacted yesterday at his business, Oros said he was talking live on the air to Bob Foltz of WMBS 590 AM Radio on Wednesday afternoon when someone driving either a Uniontown firetruck or ambulance pulled into his lot. Oros said the man cursed at him and initiated a shoving match that escalated to fisticuffs.

Foltz hosts the afternoon talk show "Let's Talk." Oros was among the guests who called in to talk with Foltz on Wednesday afternoon, according to a recording of the show.

On the recording, Oros is heard to say that while he doesn't have a problem with Uniontown's paid fire department, "it's gonna be up to the local officials whether they think they can justify keeping it or not."

Listeners then heard the following exchange between Oros and an unidentified male:

"My point is not about the Uniontown fire department," Oros said.

"It better not be," said the unidentified male.

Oros chuckled.

" Hey, it ain't funny man," said the unidentified male. "I'm tired of your (expletive)."

"Hold on here, Bob," Oros said. "Yeah, I gotta go."

Oros' phone then disconnects.

Oros yesterday said after he hung up, the two shoved and punched one another.

"He hits me in the left side of the face," said Oros, who yesterday had a barely detectable bruise and bump on one side of his face. "I hit him back."

Police were not summoned to the scene, according to a log of the department's daily activities.

Myron P. Nypaver, fire chief, said yesterday the man Oros has identified as his assailant was not on duty with the fire department on Wednesday. He said allegations that Oros' assailant drove a fire vehicle to the ice shop are "a crock."

Oros yesterday insisted his assailant arrived at his business in either a fire truck or an ambulance.

"I don't know if he was on duty or not, but he was driving their vehicle," Oros said. "I don't know if he was driving a firetruck or an ambulance, but he's their employee. There's no doubt in my mind."

No criminal charges have been filed.
