Business workshops planned at St. Vincent College

St. Vincent College Small Business Development Center will present a series of workshops focusing on technology.

The workshops are designed for individuals and businesses looking to improve their Internet presence, search engine listings.

All workshops will be held at the college from 9 am to 12 p.m., with registration beginning at 8:30 a.m.

Planning and Promoting Your Web Site will be held on Tuesday. The workshop will explain how to set up a Web site and improve an existing one.

Search Engine Optimization will be held Sept. 16. This workshop will provide an in-depth look at search engines, and how to utilize them to improve traffic to a website.

Computer Security Issues will be held on Oct. 30. Topics will include firewalls, Internet usage and how it impacts threats to a computer and Web site, incorporating an Internet usage policy in a business and more.

Joe Polk, senior technical specialist with the Pennsylvania Technical Assistance Program, will present the series.

The program focuses on helping smaller firms that normally do not have the in-house expertise or resources to resolve specific technology questions or needs.

Technical specialists assist small companies by providing advice, information and connections to other expertise, resources, or programs.

The fee for each seminar is $45 or $40 per person for two or more attendees. All three programs combined cost $105. The fee includes continental breakfast, materials, and an optional one-year subscription to Inc. magazine, valued at $10.

The Small Business Development Center is part of a statewide system of university-based economic development organizations, whose mission is to provide high quality education and consulting to entrepreneurs, to help them start and grow their businesses in the competitive global economy.
