A Uniontown woman accused of drugging a 13-year-old girl so a man could try to impregnate the teen said nothing Thursday as she was led to jail, but her minister said he feels that she is innocent of the charges.

Uniontown police said Shana K. Brown, 32, and Duane Calloway, 40, concocted the plan to surreptitiously impregnate the girl because Brown can't have more children.

Brown, 32, of 89 Millview St., was arraigned on two counts each of unauthorized administration of an intoxicant, endangering the welfare of children and corruption of minors. In addition, she faces seven counts of criminal conspiracy.

Police took Calloway, 40, of 194 S. Mount Vernon Ave., Uniontown, into custody Wednesday night. He is charged with two counts each of attempted rape, attempted sexual assault and criminal conspiracy, four counts of indecent assault and three counts of corruption of minors.

Brown, accompanied by her minister, turned herself in to police yesterday. She declined comment as she was led to jail in handcuffs. Her minister, the Rev. John Harris of Uniontown's Church of God in Christ, said he believes Brown is innocent.

In a criminal complaint, Uniontown police Detective Donald Gmitter said Brown tried to persuade the girl in December to willingly have Calloway's child, but she refused.

Police said Brown then spiked the girl's beverages twice so she would fall asleep, using rum on the first occasion and over-the-counter sleeping pills on the second. According to police, Calloway attempted to assault the girl each time, but she awoke and fought him off.

A search of Brown's residence turned up a drugstore receipt for over-the-counter sleeping pills. Discovered in trash bags behind the house were an empty bottle of rum and a pill crusher, according to the affidavit.

In addition, police indicated they found an incriminating text message allegedly sent via cell phone from Calloway to Brown.

In the message, Calloway allegedly advised Brown that to expedite the plan, Brown needed to increase the number of pills she was putting in the girl's drinks.

"U need 2 give her more pills then U have been given her," wrote Calloway, according to the affidavit. "Let's get this right this time."

According to the criminal complaint, the girl reported each incident to another adult. When that person confronted Brown, she denied the allegations, police said.

Brown was arraigned before Senior District Judge Brenda Cavalcante and placed in the Fayette County Prison in lieu of $100,000 bond. Calloway was arraigned Wednesday before District Judge Mike Defino and jailed in lieu of $150,000 bond.
