This article was modified at 9:40 p.m. Thursday, April 27, 2006, to correctly identify the day the edestrian bridge over Robinson Run in Collier officially opens. The correct day is Friday.
A 64-foot pedestrian bridge leading to 127 acres of Woodland will officially open Friday in Collier.
The span crosses Robinson Run and links Fossil Cliff with 43 acres owned by Chartiers Nature Conservancy. AR Building Company donated the 84-acre Fossil Cliff plot.
Collier landed $41,000 in state money for the bridge project. Donations are being used to pick up the remainder of the $101,000 construction tab.
"The bridge enables people who are walking to expand their recreational program not only on the flat surfaces of the trail, but also to hike the trails on the Conservancy's property," said Kay Downey-Clarke, a member of Collier Friends of the Panhandle Trail.
The Panhandle Trail covers 29 miles from Walkers Mill in Collier through Washington County, ending in Weirton, W.Va.
