Matthew Cesare

Residence: Evans City

Age: 19

School: He is a senior at Mars Area High School.

Family: Parents Domenic and Karen; sisters Kelly, 16, and Valerie, 10

Noteworthy: Cesare won the History Channel's "Save Our History: Student of the Year Award." He received a $5,000 prize and a trip to Washington D.C. His winning entry was a scrapbook with pictures of the renovation and relocation of the historic Mars Train Station and efforts to preserve the Strand Theater in Zelienople, along with an essay about his involvement in the projects. He donated tip money from his job to both projects and volunteered time to the Strand project.

Activities/Hobbies: Cesare is interested in local military history, particularly the French and Indian War, and he has been involved in his school's play and musical and the school yearbook.

Quote: "If you save an old building that is a hundred years old, you can turn it into something even better, and it will help with future generations of people. I want people to see and enjoy what it was like in the past and also how it is now."
