The scholarship, valued at more than $120,000 for out-of-state students, covers full tuition, room and board, books and other academic expenses for up to eight semesters of study. Recipients were selected from more than 1,110 high school seniors who applied to the university and took an intensive general knowledge examination. Winners were selected by a committee of faculty and administrators based on the results of the scholarship examination, high school program and achievements, other standardized test scores and interviews with the finalists. She plans to major in animal science.

Interests/Activities: Brown's academic interests include animal science, French and literature. In high school, she was involved in the Drama Club. She also participates in 4-H and cares for a cattle herd.

Quote: "When I went to test for the scholarship, I got to see the campus. After they told me I had been awarded it, I went back and took a closer look. There's a lot of really nice people there, and I think I'll enjoy it."
