The University of Pittsburgh will host a conference on working-class studies.
The 2009 Working Class Studies Association conference, titled "Class Matters," will be held June 3-6 in the university's William Pitt Union, 3959 Fifth Ave., Oakland, school officials said. The conference comes to Pittsburgh after being held in Youngstown, Ohio, and St. Paul.
Conference speakers include historian David Montgomery on class and empire, educator Ira Shor on class in the
classroom, writer Bill Fletcher Jr. on the economic crisis, and union leader Fred Redmond on labor and globalization. The event will feature musical and dramatic performances.
