The Rotary Club of Connellsville sponsored an art contest with the theme of world peace, developed to raise awareness about Rotary's efforts to spread goodwill and promote peace.
Elizabeth Mimis of Geibel Catholic School placed first on the local level and advanced to the district level, where she also earned first place and received a $500 prize. Her artwork will now appear on a set of Rotary occasional cards to be used as a fundraiser.
Geibel Catholic High school seventh- and eighth-grade students participated in the contest. Entries were judged by the Rotary Club of Connellsville. Cash prizes were awarded to the first-, second- and third-place winners.
Mimis was recognized for her accomplishments at the annual Rotary district conference, which was held in Johnstown.
She is the daughter of Christine and Richard Mimis.
