Connellsville Area School Board will vote Wednesday on various revisions to both English and math courses to be in compliance with the state.
Director Francis Mongell requested the approval of revisions to the Applied Communications Course, which includes changes and additions to English 12, English 11, English 10 and English 9 in accordance with standards set forth by the state.
All the courses are required.
Tammy Stern, the district's director of curriculum and instruction, presented the additions and changes to the math courses.
PSSA Math will be called PSSA Math 11 for 11th graders only who have failed PSSA Math as sophomores and/or low proficient, basic or below basic on the TERRA Nova (if available) or 4Sight. It will be a full-year course worth one credit, which will not be counted as a credit required for graduation. A new course description has been written.
Also, a new course description was written for AP Calculus. A regular calculus course will be offered as an option for students to be able to take the course without the rigor of the AP requirements — similar to the options for students who register for Spanish V, instead of AP Spanish, and French V, instead of AP French.
Trig and Analytic Geometry has been changed to Trigonometry and Pre-Calculus, and, as a result, Pre-Calculus has been eliminated. A new course description has been written.
The directors will vote on the changes and additions at tomorrow's meeting set for 7 p.m. at the high school cafeteria.
In other business, the directors will also vote on:
• Approving a one-year contract with ClearChoice Energy for the Emergency Demand Response Program, with an estimated revenue to the district in the amount of $55,800.
• Approving the Intermediate Unit 1 2010-2011 general operational budget of $2 million, which includes the district's contribution of $40,364.
