The Fayette County Zoning Hearing Board has continued a public hearing regarding a request for drilling a natural gas well in Bullskin Township. This is the second time the hearing has been continued.

On June 30, the zoning hearing board listened to a request for a special exception by Atlas Resources LLC of Smithfield to drill into a section of the Marcellus shale on property owned by the Connellsville Sportsmen's Association Inc. in Bullskin Township.

Because of the recent controversy over shale drilling as well as recent gas-well explosions, the zoning hearing board requested that Atlas bring in experts to discuss the safety precautions involved with drilling.

At Wednesday's zoning hearing, Richard Bower, attorney for Atlas Resources, told the board the experts to testify on the safety precautions were not available to testify and asked for a general continuance of the hearing.

Bower will notify the Fayette County Zoning Office of the available dates when the experts could come and said the company will pay for the fee to advertise the hearing in the local newspapers.
