Stay on message: If Westmoreland Republicans are serious about winning a majority in the county commissioners' office in this year's elections, they must hone a unified message that avoids the nitpicking and negativity that has derailed previous commissioner races. Candidate endorsements are fine. But the minority party also must stand united and demonstrate why it would be a superior alternative to the Democrats' status quo.

Roadmaster rigmarole. As local auditors set salaries for municipal roadmasters who also serve as township supervisors, we're reminded again of the folly of this antiquated practice. Supervisors are elected to supervise; who supervises them as roadmasters? At best, it's a questionable practice that isn't conducive to local governance.

Reading the public: Norwin elementary school parents are concerned about a new, more rigorous reading curriculum.
