After asserting that the Catholic Church from the pope on down teaches harmful things, Gary Spino of New York City claims that his family is under attack ("Family values," Jan. 31 and PghTrib.com).

Thus, he attacks the spiritual father -- the pope -- and the spiritual family -- the Catholic Church -- of millions of us and then says it is his "family" that is under attack.

He throws the stones and then bandages himself so as to look like the victim. Indeed, the pro-homosexual lobby uses "hate speech" laws as a means to stifle Christian preachers in many parts of the world.

Clearly, this lobby wants to pressure the Catholic Church into endorsing the morally disordered acts of homosexuality -- such as two men pretending they can live as husband and wife.

What would be next -- an endorsement of adultery, lying, stealing, drug abuse and pornography just so those involved in those activities won't feel bad about themselves?

True love warns the sinner of the danger to his life and soul so he can repent and do better. Mr. Spino doesn't want love extended to homosexuals; he wants the Catholic Church to be their enabler.
