Contrary to the "embarrassed" Amesh A. Adalja, the opposition to homosexual "marriage" is founded not on religious doctrine but rather on the natural moral law, which is accessible to any reasoning human being ("
Souled-out Republicans," April 30 and PghTrib.com).
Such moral reasoning recognizes that marriage is inherently based upon the complementarity between a man and a woman. They are clearly designed to come together in a way that leads to the generation of new life. It is the fundamental building block of any society.
That complementarity is impossible for two people of the same sex to duplicate. It is only because of the widespread breakdown in marriage that the pro-homosexual lifestyle lobby has found the opportunity to promote something that so clearly offends reason.
As a Christian, though, I need to point out that none of this means that we can denigrate any person who has tendencies to homosexuality.
We all have temptations, we all sin in some way, and we all need God's mercy. Unfortunately, I suppose this sentence -- based on religious doctrine -- would further "embarrass" Mr. Adalja.
