NEW KENSINGTON - An East Liberty man was shot to death early Sunday as he was leaving the bar at the Elks club along Third Avenue in New Kensington.
Police said Robert Staton, 34, of Winslow Street, was shot about 1:30 a.m. in the Lodge 294 parking lot.
When police arrived, the shooter or shooters were gone, Detective Sgt. Tom Klawinski said.
The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office said Staton died at 2:26 a.m. at Allegheny Valley Hospital, Harrison.
Klawinski would not say how many times Staton was shot or where he was hit.
He said police did not have any suspects in the case and did not know whether the shooting is related to any recent crimes.
"We think an argument might have started it," Klawinski said.
The Elks has been the scene of other shootings in recent years. Last July, a police officer was investigating a report of shots fired outside the club when he shot and injured Terrele Clinton, 27, of Arnold, after a confrontation.
In September 2001, longtime Elks club doorman Carver Richards was killed, and three others were injured by gunfire after an altercation at the club.
