Once Miles Ritenour took journalism classes at Greater Latrobe Senior High School, his career decision was an easy one.

The 2006 graduate will major in broadcast journalism at Point Park University beginning this fall.

"I've dabbled in a lot of things and this is something that I like to do," said Ritenour, 18, the son of Michelle and Gary Ritenour, of Youngstown. "I like the fact that I'm making other people aware of stories and news."

While at Greater Latrobe, Ritenour gained valuable journalism experience during a two-year tenure on the school newspaper. As a junior he was a staff writer, and in his senior year he was the editor.

Ritenour began studying the basics of broadcast journalism in broadcast and video production classes during his junior and senior years.

"I learned about all the equipment, production and editing in those classes," he said.

The teen was also the anchor for the morning news show that was broadcast throughout the senior high school. He was also a member of the varsity hockey team, and varsity cross country and track teams. He lettered four years in hockey, three years in track and two years in cross country. Ritenour was also a member of the National Honor Society, German Club, the German National Honor Society and served as vice president of student council.

"I originally wanted to become a teacher and I may still do that," he said. "I will probably go to graduate school. I want to further my education as much as I can."
