State police in Fayette County allegedly discovered a machete on a man accused of shoplifting.
State police at Uniontown said Allen Edward Pople, 18, of Uniontown, had an 18-inch steel machete hidden inside the left pant leg of his jeans while at a Target store in South Union Township.
A state trooper reportedly found the machete after employees stopped Pople for trying to leave the store without paying for $140 worth of compact discs.
Police said Pople was arraigned before an unidentified district judge on retail theft and prohibited offensive weapons charges. He was lodged in the Fayette County Prison in lieu of $25,000 bail.
Blaze reported at Marclay Elementary
Seven fire departments responded to a report of a boiler room fire Sunday at Marclay Elementary School in Henry Clay Township, Fayette County, said Fayette 911.
The severity of damage caused by the 10:10 a.m. blaze was unclear, dispatchers said.
Responding to the scene were fire departments from Markleysburg-Henry Clay Township, Ohiopyle, Farmington, Springfield Township and Uniontown, which deployed its rapid intervention team.
By noon, dispatchers said crews had the blaze under control.
Ed Hoffman, chief of the Markleysburg-Henry Clay Township Volunteer Fire Department, did not return phone calls seeking comment.
Pedestrian injured in Hempfield Twp.
A Greensburg man was taken to a Pittsburgh hospital after he was hit by a passing car's mirror Saturday, authorities said.
State police at Greensburg said David Cook was walking west on Radebaugh Road, Hempfield Township, when he was struck at 6:29 p.m.
Police said Cook was struck by the mirror of a westbound 2001 Cadillac Deville driven by Charlene Pacella, of Jeannette.
Grapeville Fire Chief Daniel Nescot said Cook was taken by ambulance to Mercy Jeannette Hospital and then flown to Pittsburgh.
Cook's condition could not be determined yesterday.
Trio invade North Union home
Three men took cash from a Fayette County woman after entering her residence and demanding money, drugs and guns.
State police at Uniontown said the men entered a residence on Altman Road, North Union Township, at 8:15 a.m. Saturday.
One of the men was armed with a handgun. Two searched the residence while the other stayed with the woman.
The men made the woman go into a bathroom, then placed a dresser in front of the bathroom door. They took $35 from the woman's purse and drove away, police said.
