When Jack DeMonte left his coins and trading cards at Westmoreland Mall Saturday night, they were secured on a display table.

When the New Stanton man returned Sunday morning, about $14,000 worth of items was missing.

"The whole table was just bare," DeMonte said. "I was in shock."

The Hempfield Township mall's trading card show took place Friday through Sunday.

The merchandise was in a bag and a locked display case, he said. "It had to be more than one person because it had to weigh 500 pounds."

Stolen were football cards autographed by Steelers such as Ben Roethlisberger, Hines Ward and Troy Polamalu; baseball cards of Pirates Hall of Famers such as Roberto Clemente, Willie Stargell and Bill Mazeroski; and many Steeler mini-helmets.

There were two display cases full of coins. There were inscribed pure silver bars, Indian-head pennies and coins dating back as far as the 1880s.

DeMonte said he had various miscellaneous Steelers items, such as Terrible Towels and scarves, on two other tables, but those were not touched.

"They knew what they were after," DeMonte said. "This just makes me sick. We've run completely out of inventory."

DeMonte said he does about two such shows a month and has never had something like this happen.

"There's been a couple of packs (of cards) here and there," DeMonte said. "But nothing like this."

State police in Greensburg are investigating the theft.
