Still woozy from ankle surgery, Mario Sandolfini knew something was the matter with his wife, Christina, when he saw her early Friday at Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital in Greensburg.
"I just knew by the way she was acting," Sandolfini said of his 32-year-old spouse. "She'd taken too much of her medication. That's been an ongoing problem."
Mario's suspicion of Christina's abuse of the anti-depressant Adivant she'd previously been prescribed sparked an argument between the couple that led to Christina storming out of the hospital at 3:30 a.m.
Christina Michelle Sandolfini has not been seen or heard from since.
The couple live in Loyalhanna Township with their 9-year-old daughter, Brianna.
"She'd gotten a ride here from one of my friends and was going to drive my truck back home," Sandolfini said. "When I saw her, I asked her for her keys because I didn't want her driving. If something has happened to her, I don't know what I'll do."
As of Sunday, state police at Kiski Valley were still searching for Christina, who is described as having a bipolar disorder.
She is 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs approximately 170 pounds, police said. She has green eyes and dark-blond, shoulder-length hair. She was last seen wearing gray sweatpants, a gray T-shirt and a navy-blue hooded pullover.
Mario injured his ankle Thursday while at a city junkyard and required emergency surgery at Westmoreland Hospital.
Because Mario Sandolfini is immobilized as he recovers from the surgery at his mother's home in Homer City, Indiana County, he cannot participate in an organized search for his wife in the city today.
In the meantime, Mario is attempting to keep daughter Brianna distracted.
"She just wants her mommy."
Anyone with information regarding Christina Sandolfini is asked to contact Kiski Valley state police Trooper Owen Leonard at 724-727-3434.
