North Huntingdon police are searching for a gunman who attempted to rob a 68-year-old woman and her teen-aged grandson inside an apartment building Monday afternoon.

The pair was followed inside the Mark Haven Apartments on Robbins Station Road by a white man wearing black clothing, a Steelers baseball cap and dark sunglasses, police said.

The man forcibly entered the woman's apartment with the gun drawn, then pointed the weapon at the back of the boy's head while demanding cash and pills. A struggle then ensued as the thief attempted to take the grandmother's purse from her shoulder.

The suspect was seen running from the apartment building and entering a gray or brown Honda Civic. Police are using the building's video surveillance system to help to identify the suspect, who was described as approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall, with a medium build.

Anyone with information about the attempted robbery should contact police at 724-863-8800.
