A Penn-Trafford assistant principal has been promoted to an administrative position.
Matthew Harris, who is assistant principal at Harrison Park and Level Green elementary schools, was unanimously appointed director of support services, effective June 1. His duties will include overseeing transportation, safety and security issues; crisis management; curriculum for grades 7-12; food service; technology; and grant writing.
Harris was appointed to his current post in June 2007, coming to Penn-Trafford after serving as principal at St. Sebastian School in North Belle Vernon.
Peggy DiNinno, who is now assistant to the superintendent for student proficiency and quality support -- part of a central administration reorganization -- said the district is working to fill Harris' position.
Harris in effect replaces Ralph Cigich, who is retiring as director of services. Although Cigich's retirement takes effect Sept. 5, his last day on the job will be in July.
"(Harris) will have time to overlap with Mr. Cigich so there is a smooth transition," DiNinno said.
The administrative position was first offered to Eric Kostic, principal of Saltsburg Middle-High School, but he turned it down because he was working on his doctorate.
Also, with the board approving the administration reorganization, Assistant Superintendent Harry Smith becomes assistant superintendent for quality personnel support, and Brett Lago's title shifts from business manager to director of financial planning and business affairs.
