A fire this morning destroyed a landmark pub and restaurant just off Route 982 in Mt. Pleasant Township.

Duffy's Saloon, formerly known as the Mammoth Pub, was destroyed in the fire that was reported at 5:32 a.m. The one-story building is located about one-quarter of a mile from the entrance to Mammoth Park.

Kecksburg Fire Chief Duane Hutter said the fire is not suspicious. No injuries were reported.

"Smoke and flames were already coming out the roof when we arrived," Hutter said.

"We're trying to pinpoint the exact cause, but it looks like it was either the furnace or compressor," he said.

Hutter said the temperature hovering about 10 degrees was a problem fighting the fire. He said the cold froze some of the pumps and fire hose nozzles while firefighters were attempting to extinguish the blaze.

The building is insured. It is owned by Carol Byce of Derry.
