APOLLO

• A salute to the armed forces will begin at 7 p.m. Saturday at Owens Field. A fireworks display will follow. Music and food will be featured. All past and present military personnel are invited to participate. Apollo Area Historical Society also will host an open house from 2-4 p.m. at the Drake Log Cabin on Williams Alley. On Sunday, Apache and Blackhawk helicopters will be displayed from 2-6 p.m., weather permitting, at North Apollo Church of God.

Greensburg

• Admission will be free from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday at the Westmoreland Museum of American Art, 221 N. Main St. A free ice cream social is planned from noon-3 p.m. Information: 724-837-1500.

Latrobe

• The week-long festivities continue at 5 p.m. today with the opening of the midway, bingo and registration for a 5-mile run and 2-mile walk at Memorial Stadium. The run and walk will start at 7 p.m. Girlz in Black Hats will perform at 6 p.m. in the Legion Keener Park band shell. On Saturday, a parade will begin at 10:30 a.m. at Irving Avenue and Ligonier Street and move through downtown. Concession stands open on the midway at noon, with rides and craft and game booths opening at 1 p.m. Musical performances are scheduled throughout the afternoon in Legion Keener Park. Fireworks will begin at 9:30 p.m.

Monongahela

• Food booths and concessions will open at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Aquatorium. Disc jockey Bill Lemon will play requests until 9:45 p.m., when a fireworks display is scheduled. Parking and admission are free.

Mt. Pleasant

• An Independence Day celebration will begin at 7 p.m. today in Veterans Park, with fireworks at 10 p.m. Chuck Corby and Quiet Storm will perform at 7 p.m. Registration for a children's watermelon-eating contest will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Glass and Ethnic Festival booth. First place winners in age groups 3-6 and 7-10 each will receive a $20 prize. Food will be available. Information: 724-547-0115.

West Newton

• A fireworks display will begin at dusk Saturday over the ball fields behind the Giant Eagle. Spectators should bring chairs or blankets.
