Doctor: No damage to Maddox' spinal column
Dr. Joseph Maroon, the Steelers' neorological surgeon, addressed the Tommy Maddox situation and said that Maddox's prognosis looks good, as there appears to be no damage to the spinal column.
"The spinal cord is pristine in terms of its depiction on the MRI," Marron said.
Maddox has plenty of company on the Steelers' injury report this week.
Cowher said that the following players will not play this week: Maddox (spinal, brain concussion), C Jeff Hartings (knee), LB James Farrior (knee), CB Hank Poteat, (knee) and DB Mike Logan (groin). Listed as doubtful is LB Larry Foote (calf). Questionable players include RB Chris Fuamatu-Ma'afala (peck) and CB Chidi Iwuoma (knee). TE John Allred (concussion) and RB Jerome Bettis (knee) are probable.
The Steelers also placed kicker Todd Peterson on injured reserve with a rib injury and cut tight end/long snapper Dan O'Leary. The team signed IL Mike Jones, who was on the roster last season. Jones was cut by the Oakland Raiders three weeks ago.
