Institute starts new autism program

The Watson Institute, 301 Camp Meeting Road, is offering therapy to children and adolescents with autism or an autism-related disorder through a new program.

Called SCAFFOLD, which stands for Services for Children with Autism and Families Facilitating Outpatient Learning and Development, the program also provides diagnostic and wraparound evaluations and medication management.

Northern Tier Library, Richland Center, 405 Dickey Road, is offering the following free computer classes:

    North Allegheny schools

    Safari, the North Allegheny Senior High School yearbook, won an all-state award from the Pennsylvania School Press Association.

    Only seven newspapers, four literary magazines and four other yearbooks were so honored.

    Parents and teachers of students in grades six through nine who want to learn more about what is available to young people on the Internet are invited to a program from 7 to 9 p.m. Jan. 9 at the intermediate high school auditorium, 350 Cumberland Road, McCandless.

    Experts from the FBI, U.S. Postal Service, Allegheny County District Attorney's office and Duquesne University will present examples of what is available and offer advice on avoiding pitfalls.

    Members of Students Against Destructive Decision-making (SADD) will answer questions about student Internet usage.

    McCandless

    Beginning in the spring, the La Roche College Parish Scholarship Program will award merit-based scholarships of $5,000 to young members of the Roman and Byzantine Catholic dioceses of Pittsburgh.

    Parishes will nominate students, who should be high school seniors with grade point averages of at least 3.0. Recipients must enroll at La Roche full time in the fall semester.

    The scholarship is renewable annually if the student reapplies and maintains a 3.0 grade point average.

    During the spring semester, Scott Robinson of Community College of Beaver County's Prevention Project will teach "Oral History of Beaver County."
