He's just so green.
It's the first thing anyone notices about The Hulk. Close second is the fact that no matter how big he gets, his pants still stay on. Curious.
But we can't help but like the cranky buff guy anyway. Maybe it's because we've got a thing for green - whether it takes the form of cold, hard cash or Kermit the Frog.
Some of our favorite green things:
Green Eggs and Ham - everyone loves Dr. Seuss' classic, and some of us even begged Mom to add food coloring to breakfast because of it.
Green slime - little kids who watch Nickelodeon know what this is all about.
Mr. Green Jeans - kids who aren't so little anymore might be able to dredge up memories of this character from Captain Kangaroo.
Little Green Men - Just because Mulder and Scully aren't on the air anymore doesn't mean the little dudes aren't still out there.
Mean Joe Greene - Ah, the glory days of the '70s.
Mountain Dew - Expect us to meet deadline without it?
Green Acres - Eva Gabor lives in Hooterville.
A '68 Triumph TR-3 painted in British racing green - The aficionado knows what we mean.
That green couch from the Cricket wireless commercials - Would it go with grandma's living room set?
Broccoli, Brussels sprouts, spinach, asparagus and green peas - Yes, some of us really like it.
Klingons - Forget hairy old Worf, these are the oddly human-looking ones from the early "Star Trek" years.
Ireland - Those of us who've seen it can attest to the truthfulness of the "Emerald Isle" slogan it's got going on.
Green tea - Serenity in a cup.
We can't wait to see Bruce Banner morphing into The Hulk in chameleon-like director Ang Lee's newest flick.
The idea of a person turning into a superhero is a comic book staple and has been transferred to big and small screen moments time and again - Bruce Wayne into Batman, Peter Parker into Spider-Man and Clark Kent into Superman.
Other transformations aren't necessarily of the superhero variety, but they're just as fun to watch.
Here, a list of some of our big- and small-screen favorites:
Jeff Goldblum undergoes a disgusting transformation in "The Fly" remake of 1986.
Serial killer Buffalo Bill (Ted Levine) dances and prances in a creepy cross-dressing scene in 1991's "Silence of the Lambs."
Dustin Hoffman convincingly pulls a gender-bender as Michael Dorsey/Dorothy Michaels in 1982's "Tootsie."
Gary Cooper goes from hard-drinking hell-raiser to pacifist to war hero in 1941's "Sergeant York."
Hunk, Zeke, Hickory and Miss Almira Gulch appear in vivid color as The Scarecrow, The Cowardly Lion, The Tin Man and The Wicked Witch of the West in 1939's "The Wizard of Oz."
Capt. Louis Renault (Claude Rains) at the end of 1942's "Casablanca," abandons an unhappy allegiance for "a beautiful friendship" at the end of the film.
Gwyneth Paltrow turns from the lovely Viola De Lesseps into actor Thomas Kent so she can skirt the ban on female acting onstage in "Shakespeare in Love."
Michael Jackson leaps from a nice young gentleman on a date into lead dancer/monster in his groundbreaking long-form music video "Thriller."
Carrie White (Sissy Spacek) shows that The Hulk isn't the only one who isn't pleasant when angered in her reaction to a humiliating Prom Night in 1976's "Carrie."
And last, but not least, although Tom Hanks' transformation from sitcom star to Oscar winner is probably his biggest accomplishment, we still love remembering Hanks and Peter Scolari turn into Buffy and Hildegard in the 1980-82 television series "Bosom Buddies."
