Roundup: Futrell, Duquesne end La Salle's win streak

Candace Futrell scored a game-high 22 points and Loui Hall and Shiri Sharon each added 16, as visiting Duquesne snapped La Salle's four game winning streak with a 78-67 victory in a non-conference game.

The Dukes (5-7) broke the game open in the second half, outscoring the Explorers, 38-29, while holding them to 31 percent shooting.

Nicole Sinclair added 14 points for Duquense, which shot 46 percent from the floor and forced 13 La Salle turnovers. Crista Ricketts led the Explorers (8-4) with 18 points.

John Carroll 62, Carnegie Mellon 50 -- Meagan Heller registered a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds to lead John Carroll (7-5) over visiting Carnegie Mellon (3-7). The Blue Starks went on a 9-0 run midway through the second half to put the game away.

Thiel 58, La Roche 55 -- Thiel sophomore guard Kirsten Schrecongost converted a three-point play with 1:05 remaining to lift the Tomcats (4-6) over visiting La Roche (0-9) in a non-conference game. Schrecongost finished with a team-high 13 points and Laura Simonetti added 12 points for Thiel.

Geneva 52, St. Vincent 47 -- First-place Geneva used a strong defensive effort to defeat visiting St. Vincent College (2-9, 1-2) in an American Mideast Conference game. The Golden Tornadoes (10-4) held St. Vincent to just 29 percent shooting from the floor and ran their record to 5-0 in conference. Jen Rawding scored 23 points to lead all scorers and Ali Cananzi added 12 for Geneva.

Seton Hill 63, Houghton 45 -- Elena Radenkovik scored 11 points to lead three scorers in double figures, as visiting Seton Hill (3-9, 1-2) breezed past Houghton in an American Mideast Conference-North game. The Highlanders turned the ball over 30 times in the loss.


MEN

Nebraska 93, St. Francis (Pa.) 49 -- St. Francis (Pa.) missed its first 13 shots and was blown out at Nebraska (10-1) in a non-conference game. Nate Johnson led five scorers in double figures for the Cornhuskers, who started the game with a 15-2 run. Nebraska held St. Francis to just 27 percent shooting from the floor and outrebounded the Red Flash, 27-10, in the first half. Darshan Luckey had 22 points to lead St. Francis.

Carnegie Mellon 70, La Roche 69 -- Carnegie Mellon sophomore forward Clayton Barlow-Wilcox made a free throw with 34 second remaining, as the Tartans (6-4) held off visiting La Roche (3-6) in a non-conference game.

St. Vincent 88, Geneva 66 -- Tony Washam poured in 29 points and Felix Indaye added 22 to lead visiting St. Vincent (10-1, 1-1) past Geneva (7-7, 0-3) in an American Mideast Conference-North game. Kenny Roberts had 17 points and Jeff Mallory added 12 for the Bearcats, who raced to a 32-16 first-half lead and never looked back.

Seton Hill 77, Houghton 53 -- Seton Hill shot nearly 60 percent from the floor and cruised past host Houghton (2-11, 1-2) in an American Mideast Conference-North game. Naor Amiel scored a game-high 18 points and Ales Chan and Vuk Ivanovic each scored 14 points for the Griffins (9-5, 1-2), who won despite committing 26 turnovers.

Penn State-Altoona 85, Waynesburg 66 -- Justin Wolcott led five scorers in double figures with 20 points, as Penn State-Altoona rolled over visiting Waynesburg (3-6) for its first win of the season. The Lions (1-7) shot better than 56 percent from the floor and held Waynesburg to just 33 percent shooting.

Pitt-Greensburg 75, Medaille 65 -- Pitt-Greensburg took advantage of 25 Medaille turnovers to beat the visiting Mavericks (2-10) in a non-conference game. Kevin Conlon scored 22 points to lead four scorers in double figures for the Bobcats (5-5). Rene Smith had a game-high 27 points for Medaille.

Juniata 91, Villa Julie 77 -- Juniata topped the 90-point mark for the second time this season, behind a career-high 26 points from sophomore guard Tommy McConnell. The Eagles forced a season-high 36 turnovers from host Villa Julie (4-8) with 20 of them coming on steals.
