Few ticket-seekers sleep out

About two dozen students spent Monday night in Pitt's Petersen Event Center lobby to make sure they could get tickets for the Sweet 16 and Elite Eight NCAA Tournament games at Continental Airlines Arena in East Rutherford, N.J.

The tickets went on sale Tuesday morning; 140 tickets were available. Students paid $120 for a seat to the games that will played.

First-year student Carlyne Quirino, 19, slept in her dormitory, but is guaranteed to get a ticket.

"I was thinking we were going to come up to Petersen and it would be packed with tons of people. There really aren't that many," Quirino said.

So few, in fact, ticket office workers said the lobby wasn't close to crowded at 8:45, 45 minutes after ticket windows opened.

Thin sleepover turnout disappointed some of the die-hard fans.

"People can camp out, live in tents for weeks at Duke to get tickets for (a first-round game), and people here (complain) about sleeping for one night inside on a lobby floor for third- and fourth-round (games)," said sophomore Ryan Gaus, 19.
