To Bengals , business is business

Players come and go in the NFL but the prevailing wisdom seems to suggest that business is business; it's nothing personal. The Bengals clearly feel that way about defensive tackle Glen Steele, who left Cincinnati after six seasons for New York via free agency, got cut by the Giants and has resurfaced with the Bengals. "He's a good player," fellow defensive tackle John Thornton told Bengals.com "If there's a good player on the street, you want to go get him. He can play end and tackle."

  • The Browns are seemingly in a constant state of flux with their linebacking corps these days. Last season, they went with three new starters. This season, they've penciled in two, and more changes could be coming if Eric Westmoreland continues to impress. "I can't believe he was on the street," coach Butch Davis told The Cleveland Plain Dealer. Westmoreland was signed Aug. 5 after three years in Jacksonville, where he had been a third-round pick of the Jaguars in 2001.

  • The Ravens' preseason-opening 24-0 shutout of Atlanta on Thursday night doesn't count in the standings, but Baltimore's coaches don't mind. "Our first unit played Ravens football," defensive coordinator Mike Nolan told The Baltimore Sun. Added coach Brian Billick: "Any time you can shut a team out, I don't care if it's the preseason, you've got to feel good about it."
