'10th and Wolf' to begin filming Sept. 7

Murder. Vengeance. Mobsters. Marines.

Marines?

All cycle into play in "10th and Wolf," the movie that begins filming in Pittsburgh Sept. 7.

It will be made in and around the downtown area under the direction of its screenwriter, Bobby Moresco, based on a story by Chazz Palminteri and the Mafia informant and FBI special agent known as Joe Pistone.

It involves events that led to a mob war in South Philadelphia, where the intersection of 10th and Wolf exists.

The war was between young mob Turks who expected to assume control of a crime family when Philadelphia crime boss Niocadimus "Little Nicky" Scarfo was incarcerated for life and native Sicilian John Stanza invaded their turf.

The star-heavy cast will be headed by Val Kilmer, Brian Dennehy, Lesley Ann Warren, Dennis Hopper, Giovanni Ribisi, Piper Perabo, John Leguizamo, James Marsden and Tommy Lee.

Suzanne DeLaurentiis, who produced "Out of the Black" in 2001, mostly in the Tarentum area, is producing. Executive producer is local resident Jeffrey W. Todd.
