There's no duller film genre than the mindless movies based on video games.

By their very essence, they're "about" two-dimensional action figures blasting each other endlessly only to have opponents rematerialize for more.

"Resident Evil: Apocalypse" is a superfluous sequel to an unnecessary 2002 original that was itself based on a video game series.

The continuing character in the two movies is Alice, played again by Milla Jovovich. She's the former head of security for Umbrella Corp., "the largest and most powerful commercial entity in the world."

Umbrella's experimentation with viral weaponry went awry, resulting in legions of marauding zombies and toothy, gooey creatures that are getting awfully old from too many horror pictures.

Alice and a few colleagues must escape.

See the slow-mo bullets. See the explosions. See the action sequences shot and edited so individual movement is incoherent.

See, Spot, see. Sic 'em, Spot, sic 'em. And if they try to reanimate and produce a third "Resident Evil," show them no mercy.
