Roundup: No. 1 Moon tops Hopewell
Moon (4-1, 3-0) played the game without senior forward John Morihlatko, who sat out with a leg injury, but is expected to return for the Tigers' home game Saturday against Keystone Oaks.
Hopewell managed only two shots on goal and fell to 1-6, 1-3.
Hampton 3, Shaler 2 -- Jedd Cordisco scored a goal, as No. 2 Hampton (6-0, 3-0) held off Shaler (3-3, 2-2) in a Section 2-AAA game at Shaler.
Thomas Jefferson 5, West Allegheny 0 -- Evan Browne scored three goals and his brother, Ryan Browne, added one for No. 3 Thomas Jefferson (5-3, 2-2).
Seneca Valley 2, North Allegheny 0 -- David Monteleone saved 12 shots to preserve a shutout in this Section 2-AAA contest. Tyler Smith and Zach Nichols each scored goals for the Raiders (3-3, 1-2).
South Park 20, Carmichaels 0 -- Four players recorded hat tricks to lead Class AA No. 2 South Park (3-3, 2-0) over Carmichaels (0-6, 0-4) in Section 5-AA action. Adam Obranovich, Mike Schwarzel, Justin Boehm, and Dan Gardner all found the net three times for the Eagles.
Quaker Valley 7, OLSH 0 -- Adam Monteverde scored thee goals to lead Quaker Valley (5-2, 3-0) to the Section 5-A victory over OLSH (1-5, 0-4)
Girls Soccer
Pine-Richland 2, Shaler 0 -- The No. 3-ranked Rams recovered from yesterday's loss to North Allegheny by defeating Section 2-AAA foe Shaler (3-3, 1-3). Kylie Miller and Jordan Baranowski each scored for Pine-Richland (5-1, 3-1).
Canon-McMillan 2, McGuffey 0 -- Rachel Derrico stopped 10 shots to record her second shutout for Canon-McMillan (2-3, 2-2) a Section 5-AAA victory. Ashley Young and Rebecca Fidler each scored for the Big Macs.
Neshannock 11, New Brighton 0 -- Breanna Stewart and Caitlyn Bleggi each scored thee goals, as Neshannock (4-1, 3-1) breezed past New Brighton (0-4, 0-4) in a Section 5-AA contest.
Girls Volleyball
Hopewell 3, New Brighton 0 -- Senior Christa Harmotto recorded 19 kills and nine blocks to lead the Vikings past New Brighton in Section 1-AA action.
