Amy Johns

School: McKeesport

Class: Junior

Sport: Basketball

Height: 5-foot-9

Position: Guard

Notable: Johns had back to back 39 point games to start the season. She scored 39 points - a career high -- in a 56-44 victory over Sewickley Academy on Friday in the Duquesne Tip-off Tournament and the following day added 39 in a 64-60 loss to host Duquesne in the championship game. She also was named tournament Most Valuable Player.

For her efforts, Johns is the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review Female Athlete of the Week.

"I just play every game with the same intensity," said Johns, a Division I recruit. "I thank God that I am able to do the things I do. I don't count points. I just try and focus on what I need to do to help my team win."

McKeesport coach Christine French said Johns is one of the leaders on the team. She moved from the forward to the guard position this year.

"She has nice range and can mix it up," French said. "She can play inside and out side, which makes it tough for teams to deal with. Not only can she score, she also is a strong rebounder. Amy also is a low-key, humble kid. She could have scored even more points, but she passed the ball to her teammates, because that is the type of unselfish player she is."
