Pechin plans move to mall
Donald D'Amico Sr., president and CEO of Pechin Shopping Village, announced today the village will be relocating to the Laurel Mall, located along Route 119 in Dunbar Township.
Although plans are not finalized, D'Amico said he is presently studying moving the entire shopping village to the Laurel Mall. Final details won't be known until sometime in June.
"It's not all figured out yet," D'Amico said, offering no further comment on the relocation.
The Pechin Shopping Village has been in operation for approximately 58 years just outside of Dunbar Borough. It was the inspiration of the late Sullivan D'Amico, Donald D'Amico's father, who wanted to become a local grocery store owner. Starting out in the street entrance to a home, Sullivan D'Amico eventually moved to a nearby location and built a home for his family and opened the grocery store under their apartment. Pechin has grown into an employer of 330 people.
Donald D'Amico said the opening for the village's Laurel Mall location is set for July.
In a press release, D'Amico assured his customers prices would not increase, but the shopping atmosphere would be improved and merchandise accessibility would deliver a "new and exciting shopping experience for our customers."
Laurel Mall representatives were contacted today but could make no comment on the business development.
Tom Jamieson, the owner of the Shop 'N Save, which is currently located at the Laurel Mall, could not be reached for comment by press time on how the Pechin move would affect his store.
