Chi-Lites' Eugene Record dead at 64
Funeral arrangements were pending Sunday for Chi-Lites singer-songwriter Eugene Record, who died in suburban Chicago at 64.
Record died of cancer at his daughter's home Friday, the Chicago Sun-Times reported Sunday.
Record's smooth tones were featured in Chi-Lites hits such as "Have You Seen Her," "Oh Girl" and "Coldest Days of My Life."
The band had its first national hit, "Give it Away," in 1969. The original lineup split up in 1976, but Record rejoined in 1980 and remained a Chi-Lite for several years.
He went off on his own again the late 1980s to launch a career in gospel music.
He had planned to re-release his 1998 gospel album, "Let Him In," but his illness kept him from finishing the project, his wife, Jacki, told the Sun-Times.
