Steelers ticker-tape parade Tuesday

Pittsburgh will throw a ticker-tape parade Tuesday morning to celebrate the Steelers' first Super Bowl victory in 26 years.

The parade of Steelers players and high school marching bands will set out from Mellon Arena at 11 a.m. and proceed down Centre Avenue. The marchers will turn left on Sixth Avenue, go right on Fifth Avenue, turn left on Liberty Avenue and stop near the Pittsburgh Hilton Hotel near Gateway Center, Downtown, said Public Works Director Guy Costa.

Parade streets will be closed for about an hour beginning at 10:45 a.m.

"It's a ticker-tape parade, so we're asking people to bring confetti or shredded paper or whatever," Costa said.

Costa wasn't sure Monday morning how many Steelers players would participate. Players will be in vehicles during the festivities.

High school marching bands from North Allegheny, North Catholic, Perry Traditional Academy and Gateway High School will lead the celebration.
