Grindstone man dies when car hits abutment
A Grindstone man was killed early Tuesday in a one-car accident in Brownsville.
The Fayette County Coroner's Office said Robert E. Shumar, 46, of Grindstone, Jefferson Township, was killed when his car hit a concrete abutment on Albany Road at about 3 a.m.
He was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:35 a.m. by Deputy Coroner John Duke. The coroner's office said the high-speed impact of the crash caused blunt-force trauma to Shumar's head and face and fractures to the lower extremities.
A toxicology report is pending and could take up to a month to be completed, according to the coroner's office.
