Westinghouse taps architectural engineering chief

Manufacturing

Tom Weir joined Westinghouse Electric Co. as director of architectural engineering and engineering alliances. He is responsible for driving further development and growth of the company's worldwide architectural-engineering global strategy, and engineering alliance product lines.

Banking and finance

• Melissa Lockerbie joined Babb, Inc. as employee benefits account manager. She works with group medical clients in the Small Business Solutions Center.

• John Lohr joined Fiduciary360 as deputy counsel. He is responsible for the development of additional international ventures, starting with Canada.

Accounting

• Malin, Bergquist & Co. named Lisa Block staff accountant II, Sean Kocan senior accountant, and Padraic McGrath manager. Block previously was a staff accountant I; Kocan a staff accountant II; and McGrath a supervisor.

• Sharon A. Holdcroft joined Creese, Smith & Co. LLC. She has over 13 years of experience in public accounting.

Legal

• Dannielle E. Cisneros joined Pepper Hamilton LLP as a real estate associate. She concentrates her practice in transactional real estate.

• David E. Sweitzer and Yu Chen joined Meyer, Unkovic & Scott LLP. Sweitzer is a partner in the construction law and business litigation groups and focuses his practice in commercial litigation. Chen works in the business transactions and planning group and focuses in the areas of general corporate law, corporate compliance, financing, mergers and acquisitions, securities regulation, real estate, and ERISA.

• Cynthia M. Maleski was appointed to the law committee of the National Fraternal Congress of America. She operates her own law practice in Natrona Heights.

• Thorp Reed & Armstrong elected Kim Ward Burns, Sunah Park, Lauren Rushak, John Scozio, and Steve Seel partners. Burns is a member of the business practice group and concentrates on the representation of individuals and entities; Park is a member of the commercial and corporate litigation group and practices in the areas of commercial litigation and products liability defense; Rushak is a member of the commercial and corporate litigation group and handles a variety of complex disputes involving claims for fraud, breach of contract and breach of fiduciary duty; Scozio concentrates his practice on a wide array of general real estate and business transactions; and Seel concentrates his practice on the representation of individuals in the estate planning context, with an emphasis on creating well-coordinated financial and estate plans.

• Laura M. Miller joined the Law Offices of Ira Weiss as a member of the tax collections division. Previously, she served as general counsel overseeing a large high-profile delinquent tax lien portfolio for GLS Capital Services, Inc.

Education

• Dr. Maurice Clifton and Michael Mahalik joined Robert Morris University as associate deans to the University's proposed School of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Clifton is associate dean for medical education and is responsible for developing the school's clinical curriculum. Mahalik is associate dean for academic affairs in the School of Osteopathic Medicine and oversees development of the school's basic sciences curriculum.

Health care

• Dr. Mariann McElwain joined the staff of UPMC Passavant and UPMC Passavant Cranberry. She specializes in general otolaryngology with an emphasis on sino-nasal, swallowing and sleep disorders. She also specializes in pediatric otolaryngology.

• Monongahela Valley Hospital named Dr. Mohsen A. Isaac medical director of radiation oncology. He assists in coordinating the advancement of oncology services at MVH and its Sweeney-Melenyzer Regional Cancer Center. He is also a partner in West Penn Radiation Oncology Associates, where the other three physicians also joined the MVH medical staff. They are: Dr. Judith H. Figura, Dr. Victor Onufrey, and Dr. H. C. Ho.

• John Poister was appointed to fill the nonmember seat on the board of directors of the Oncology Nursing Society. He is director of coverage and content for WPXI-TV.

• ThermaSolutions named Glenn Keeling executive vice president of business development. He is responsible for global efforts to research, analyze and build relationships with key physicians and hospitals to create high quality market differentiation.

• Celluman, Inc. named Dr. Rosemary Mazanet to the board of directors. Presently, she serves as the chief executive officer of Breakthrough Therapeutics, LLC and as acting chief executive officer of Access Pharmaceuticals.

Technology

Tony Scarfo joined ECI Telecom as executive vice president and general manager of its Data Networking division. He has over 24 years of experience in the access, optical and data telecommunications industry.

Nonprofits

• The Mediation Council of Western Pennsylvania elected members to their board of directors for the 2006-2007 year. Directors are: Bernhard Behrend, David Breen, Richard Duncan, Christine Kornosky, Richard Rogow, Heidi Sherman, Nancy Snow, Paul Wahrhaftig, Laura Candris, Sally Cimini, Mark Greenblatt, Jean Luparielo, Michael McDowell, Glenn Schillo, and Susan Tanzer.

• Shannon Murphy joined Advantage Credit Counseling Service. She is the director of development and public relations.

• The Challenge Program, Inc. named John F. Casey manager of program development. He is responsible for connecting the business community with schools in Washington, Westmoreland and Allegheny counties while working to increase awareness of the program in the region, and coordinate orientation programs and award ceremonies for those counties' high schools.

Other

• Fran Sehn received his associate in risk management designation. He is a senior loss control consultant with Hilb Rogal & Hobbs.

• Sharp Edge Bistro named Nick Engel manager, Gino Susi assistance manager and Ray Ellis kitchen manager. Each have served in similar positions at other Sharp Edge restaurants.

• Burt Hill named Bernie Murano corporate IT support manager, Mark Salem interior designer, and Karl Steinmetz project manager. Murano has 20 years of experience and is certified in Help Desk management; Salem is an allied member of American Society of Interior Designers; and Steinmetz has 25 years of experience and has strong design and graphic presentation skills.

• Gil Brindley joined PSI as an executive vice president. She is responsible for business operations in Pennsylvania and West Virginia and assists in the area of acquisitions.

• Wrenn C. White joined the Bach Choir of Pittsburgh as managing director. He has experience in management, marketing and fundraising skills developed through her work in the states and Australia.

Awards

• Ken Smith received the 2006 Institute of Industrial Engineers Fellow Award and the 2006 Grove City College Alumni Achievement Award. He is president of H.B. Maynard and Co., Inc. Smith received the awards for service, leadership qualities, and significant contributions to his field of endeavor and to society.

• R. Fernando Pasquel received the 2006 Civil Engineering Distinction Award from the Hispanic Engineer National Achievement Awards Corp. He is vice president and water resources engineering manager for Michael Baker Jr., Inc. and provides leadership for Baker's Federal Emergency Management Agency Map Modernization Program. He also serves as deputy program executive and operations manager and as one of the leads in Baker's national water practice.

• Carrie Ann Zayas, Winifred Torbert and Victor H. Diaz received Siembra Awards presented by the Pittsburgh Metropolitan Area Chamber of Commerce. Zayas is assistant vice president of the Hispanic segment, PNC Financial Services; Torbert is director of community development, Pittsburgh Pirates; and Diaz is chief executive officer, PMAHCC.
