HARRISBURG — In a hypothetical match-up of two likely candidates for governor, Republican State Attorney General Tom Corbett holds a 34 to 29 percent lead over Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato, a Democrat, with one-third of the state's voters undecided.
The poll of 700 voters was conducted last week by Susquehanna Polling and Research. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 5 percentage points.
The poll was released as prospective candidates for governor square-off in a forum this afternoon sponsored by the Pennsylvania Professional Fire Fighters Association. Corbett will not attend because of another engagement, a spokesman said. Onorato is one of four Democratic candidates slated to appear.
Onorato and Corbett have been called potential frontrunners in the 2010 race.
In the Onorato-Corbett match-up, 4 percent of those polled had no choice or another choice, and 32 percent were undecided.
