Strongstown man accused of stealing, trying to sell to neighbors
An Indiana County man has been charged with stealing items from a Clymer woman's home then trying to hawk them to her neighbors.
David Sybert, 22, of Strongstown, was charged with theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property after he allegedly stole a knife display, a compound bow and a digital camera from the First Street home of Melanie Rhodes, 27. The items taken Nov. 21 were valued at $1,150.
Rhodes told police that she had been sleeping upstairs when her young son let Sybert, a family friend, into the house.
State police at Indiana said after Sybert left Rhodes' home, he attempted to sell the items by going door to door at a housing complex on nearby Hillside Drive. A resident of the housing complex recognized the items as belonging to Rhodes.
Charges were filed with District Judge George Thachik in Clymer.
