FOUNDED: 1851.
ORIGIN OF TOWN: Founded by Wilson McCandless, an attorney and judge, when Pine Township was divided. James Duff, who claimed 400 acres in 1795, was the township's first settler. After his death, Duff's widow sold the land for a mare and a saddle.
